Highland Apartments are a development of the old Highland Hotel in Nairn which has been converted into self catering accommodation units. They command a central position on the junction of High Street and Leopold Street in the heart of Nairn. Many exceptional places to eat are within walking distance - from the cheap and cheerful to top quality fine dining experiences. Asian food is found in Chinese and Indian varieties, fast food takeaways like Ashers bakery across the road and you may wish to try "The Classroom" 200 yards away for something a bit special at reasonable prices.

 

Our building, originally known as the Station Hotel and then from 1933 as the Highland Hotel, is situated on the corner of High Street and Leopold Street in Nairn. It was designed by Duncan Cameron and completed in 1896 of red sandstone.

The plans are part of the records of Nairn's erstwhile Dean of Guild Court. These courts originated in mediaeval times. A guild were often a group of merchants who were influential citizens in the burgh. Their president, known as the Dean, had a role similar to that of a magistrate. The courts were responsible for enforcing building regulations in the burgh, a function now carried out by local authority building control departments. As now, plans for new buildings or alterations to existing ones had to be submitted to the Dean of Guild for approval
